Chris Alvarez, a 2019 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College’s Emergency Medical Technology program, led members of local law enforcement agencies in specialized emergency medical training at OTC.
“It was amazing to see how the students became teachers,” said Emergency Medical Technology Program Director Chris Page. “The team was able to see and put into practice some of the skills that Chris taught them so that they could assist him in the event of a medical emergency.”
In addition to serving in the Air National Guard as a C130 loadmaster, Alvarez works full-time as a paramedic with the Bulloch County EMS office and is a SWAT medic with the Statesboro Police Department. The training, held in one of OTC's laboratories, taught SWAT team members how Alvarez would utilize his skills for the team in the event of a medical emergency during a surgery. It was helpful to understand and confirm.
“It was a really great opportunity to partner with Chris Page and allow our SWAT teams to further enhance their training in stopping bleeding,” Alvarez said. “Our team is full of hands-on learners. It was great to be able to go into the lab and get the training to become familiar. That way, if the need arose, my team could quickly and easily We will be able to provide appropriate medical care to those in need. ”
