Nuvance Health, a hospital system serving Putnam, Dutchess, CT, will partner with Northwell Health, one of the largest hospital systems in the New York metropolitan area.
In a news release Wednesday, both nonprofit hospital systems announced they have decided to work together to “form a new integrated regional health system” connecting New York and Connecticut.
“This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Northwell and Nuvance Health, and will benefit both health systems,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “This represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen our business and take patient care and services to the next level.” “We have a similar mission to provide quality care to patients in the communities we serve. At Nuvance Health, our 14,000 staff and health care providers will further the care they provide every day. I look forward to strengthening it.”
The newly integrated system will expand to more than 1,000 healthcare facilities, including 14,500 providers and 28 hospitals.
Existing local hospitals within the Nuvance Health System, including Putnam Hospital in Carmel, Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, and Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, will now be affiliated with the Northwell Health System name, Nuvance said. Spokesman John Nelson said.
Local Northwell Health-affiliated hospitals include Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow.
But Nuvance Health patients won't see any changes for some time, according to Nuvance Health spokesperson John Nelson.
“We still have to go through the regulatory approval process, which could take about a year or more,” Nelson said.
Northwell Health Systems said it will make “significant investments” in Nuvance locations and services to improve the system's quality of care and increase its ability to serve more people. Patients of the integrated hospital system will now have access to care in Connecticut, the south-central Hudson Valley, the lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island.
“By partnering with Northwell Health, we will continue to improve the quality and access to care we provide to our communities,” said John M. Murphy, M.D., President and CEO of Northwell Health. “This represents a major leap forward in our shared mission to make access easier and more equitable.” Nuvance Health. “This agreement will enable our community hospitals to significantly improve health outcomes, provide unparalleled care, and drive positive change in the healthcare landscape.”
Northwell and Nuvans said the merger will not only help eliminate health disparities across the New York metropolitan area, but will also provide new jobs for health care workers across the region.
