Ministry of Health reopens King's Chinese BBQ 5

Wailuku – Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Division issues green “pass” placard during follow-up inspection on April 8, 2024, allowing King’s Chinese BBQ 5 (DBA General’s Chinese BBQ) to reopen Did. A complaint inspection conducted on April 4, 2024 confirmed evidence of an active cockroach infestation, resulting in DOH issuing a red placard and closing the facility.
Observations during follow-up indicated that only two dying cockroaches were observed on the floor. No other pest activity was observed in or around the kitchen equipment. The food facility has contracted with a professional pest control company to treat the area weekly starting next month. DOH will conduct unannounced follow-up inspections to recheck the facility's efforts to maintain regulatory compliance and active management regarding pest prevention.
DOH requires that facilities meet the following parameters:
- Work with a professional pest control company to perform weekly pest control treatments for one month.
- The facility will continue to clean areas under kitchen equipment to remove residual grease and debris and remove pest attractants.
The DOH Food Safety Division protects and promotes the health of Hawaii's residents and visitors through the education of food industry workers and the regulation of food establishments throughout the state. The branch conducts regular health inspections of food facilities where food is prepared, manufactured, distributed, and sold.
The branch is also investigating the source of the food poisoning and the possibility of contamination. They are also responsible for mitigating the impact of these incidents and preventing future occurrences. DOH food safety experts work with business owners, food service workers, and the food industry to ensure safe food preparation and employee hygiene practices.
