PHOENIX, Ariz. – Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) will be offering free microchips at its Western Shelter in honor of National Pet ID Week starting April 17th.th-twenty threerd. National Pet ID Week is held annually to remind pet owners of all the steps they can take to give their pets the best chance of recovery if they become lost.
Research shows that more than 5 million animals enter shelters across the country each year. 40-60% of rescue animals are lost pets. The unfortunate reality is that one out of every three pets goes missing at some point, sometimes through no fault of their owners. Even the best-behaved dog can get lost or run away unexpectedly. Microchipping dogs not only greatly increases the chances that lost dogs will be reunited with their owners, but it could also help reduce crowding issues facing shelters across the country.
“I think it’s great that we can host an event like this so that all dog owners in Maricopa County can benefit from free microchipping,” said Communications Supervisor Kim Powell. Ta. “There’s no better time than National Pet ID Week to come to our Western Shelter to ensure your dog is provided with proper microchip identification during our free event.”
MCACC is pleased to offer free microchip implantation services for all seven days of National Pet ID Week. MCACC already microchips all adopted dogs, but this event will offer free microchipping services for their dogs to Maricopa County residents who may not have adopted a dog from a shelter. It will give you the opportunity to receive it.
Register for an appointment to receive your microchip during National Pet ID Week.
