NEW YORK, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A New York City rabbit was recently announced as one of the winners of Nationwide's “Wacky Pet Names” contest for unique names.
After a week of voting, on Wednesday, April 17th, blond Holland Lop rabbit Thor Odinbun, the Vander God, was announced as one of the three winners.
Each year, the nation's leader in pet health insurance recognizes the most unique and clever names from a roster of more than 1.2 million rescued pets. His top 10 dog, cat, and exotic names were voted on by the public from April 9th to 12th.
The other two winners include a dog from Little Rock, Arkansas named Corporate Molly, and a cat from Portland, Oregon named Tony “Scarface” Baloney.
Before adopting the rabbit, pet parent Shilmi had planned to name him Thor Odinbun God of Bandar.
“My best friend and I came across a list of over 1,000 dog names created by Edward of Norwich, 2nd Duke of York in the 15th century. Inspired by this, we decided to create our own, not limited to dogs. I decided to make a list of pet names and it will soon be 600,” Shilmi said.
After making a list of pet names, Shilmi couldn't stop dreaming of naming her little blonde Holland Lop rabbit “Thor”, and soon that dream came true.
“As if I were the embodiment of it, a blonde Holland Lop rabbit came home.'' It turned out to be.”
Even though Thor has proven to be a resilient little bunny, Shilmi still wanted her pet to be protected from unexpected situations. So she chose Pet Protection Mjolnir, a nationwide pet insurance company.
“I would never hesitate to save a pet's life. I know that investing in nationwide pet insurance is an investment in their future and well-being.” The peace of mind that comes with knowing that financial support is available is unparalleled.”
As a reward for winning the contest, Shilmi and Thor Odinbun will receive a professional photoshoot together and a gift card to create a custom pet portrait.
