WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its Student and Athletes of the Month for November.

Students of the Month are chosen based on the school's “Alumni Portrait” attributes: resourceful, responsible, resilient, courteous and prepared.
Emily Durkin, daughter of Hammett and Megan Vyas, of Chelmsford, is a senior in the health outreach program and a mentor to freshmen. She plans to continue in the health field after graduation.
Through the Cooperative Education Program, she works at Chelmsford Crossing, an assisted living facility in her hometown. One recent day, she carefully noticed that a resident in a wheelchair was choking and administered the Heimlich maneuver, saving the man's life.
Emily was nominated by health support instructors Theresa Ristaino and Milaina Mainieri for her “quick action and use of skills and training to save lives.”
Rachel Vincent, of Townsend, is the daughter of Eugene and Darlene Champagne and is a junior in the Health Assistance Program. She is an honor roll student, a student representative on the school committee, and volunteers at school events such as Parents Night and Open House. She also plays volleyball for the Vikings.
She hopes to continue working in medicine and plans to study nursing in college.
Rachel was nominated by health support instructors Teresa Ristaino and Milaina Mainia, who wrote: She is an all-around great person and we are lucky to have her in our technology field and in her school. ”
athlete of the month
Jayden Jean, of Chelmsford, the daughter of Tim and Amanda Jean, is a freshman cross country runner who was named a CAC All-Star. She will also run track and field for the Vikings.
Cross country coach Bruce Sullivan selected Jayden because she was Nashoba Tech's top female athlete at the CAC Championships, finishing seventh overall.
Micah Wells, a Westford native who is the son of Jason and Wendy Wells, is a junior cross country runner who, according to coach Bruce Sullivan, “helped Nashoba Tech win its first league title in 40 years. “I did.” He lost only one loss in dual competition all season and finished second at the CAC Championships.
Mika attends an engineering academy. He also plays baseball for the Vikings.
