The nearly 10-year veteran of Houston city government will lead the city's finance department after the City Council approved the appointment of Melissa Dubowski on Wednesday.
Mayor John Whitmire, who won a Dec. 9 runoff election and took office this month, said the finance director appointment will likely be the most important.
“There are some financial challenges, we all know that,” he told the City Council. “However, (Dubowski’s) experience and dedication to the city is very encouraging to me as the new mayor.”
