The Maui Humane Society will open its new Lahaina Pet Resource Center on February 7, 2024, following a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at 11 a.m. A mobile veterinary hospital event will follow the ceremony. Provide free wellness services to pets affected by the fire.
This space will serve displaced Lahaina pet owners and those affected by the fires in accessible locations on West Maui. This includes more than 400 pets living with displaced families in temporary hotel housing. The following services are provided:
- Free pet food distribution
- Free distribution of pet supplies such as collars, leashes, and kennels
- Weekly mobile animal clinic offering wellness services including vaccines, microchips, and flea prevention.
- On-site support from MHS's Wildfire Community Liaison. He works one-on-one with pet owners seeking pet-friendly housing, financial support for off-island pet travel, resources for veterinary care, and more.
- The services provided at this location will evolve based on the needs of affected pet owners.
“As the Maui Humane Society affirms our support and Kuleana, our Lahaina location will serve as the seed for a resilient Westside community and island regrowth,” said MHS Wildfire Community Liaison Officer. Johnny Lingao said. “Our mission is to connect pets and people by providing free resources to those affected by the tragic Lahaina fires.”
The Lahaina Pet Resource Center is located at 48 Ulupono Street in Lahaina and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pet owners in need can also schedule a one-on-one consultation with MHS's Wildfire Community Liaison for professional assistance.
MHS' mobile animal clinic will provide free wellness services to affected pets at this location every Wednesday. Pet owners are encouraged to visit mauihumanesociety.org/events for more information on veterinary services and schedules.
