State health regulators are scheduled to discuss Steward Healthcare's decision to sell its Massachusetts physician network on Thursday.
Steward is selling the network to OptumCare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
The proposal received harsh criticism from Sen. Elizabeth Warren and House Speaker Ron Mariano.
Steward HealthCare, reeling from a financial crisis that could jeopardize several Massachusetts hospitals, is “a castle in the sand, a showpiece,” Gov. Thursday's Health Policy Committee meeting is also expected to include a vote on establishing a 2025 health care cost growth benchmark.
Last month, state health officials received a notice related to the planned sale of Steward Healthcare Network, which has a contract with Stewardship Health, to OptumCare.
Stewardship Health is the parent company of Stewardship Health Medical Group, which employs primary care physicians and other clinicians in nine states, according to the Health Policy Commission.
