MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been arrested after allegedly pistol-whipping an employee, causing a broken jaw, threatening a child, and then trying to pay for a hospital bill.
Police said the victim was late for work at Expo Stone on Lamar Avenue on Oct. 16, and his employer, Osman Elkayat, became angry with him.
According to reports, Elkayat pulled out a gun and punched the victim in the face several times.
The victim fled to a nearby store, but the manager followed him and the assault continued. Police said Elkayat fired shots at the victim as he fled.
On January 18, the victim underwent jaw surgery and said he would be in the hospital for at least another week.
On January 19, the victim claimed that Elkayat called her multiple times and threatened to harm her son if she contacted the police. Elkayat allegedly sent his father to the victim's room at the hospital and had him sign an unknown document to receive the $10,000.
Police said the father became agitated and threatened to break the victim's legs if he refused his advances.
On January 22, the victim said she received four missed calls from Elkayat threatening to kill her.
Osman Elkayat is charged with aggravated assault, harassment and coercion of a witness. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
