Louisville's men's basketball team avoided a loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday night, where a game-ending 28-8 run would have halted their momentum, winning 79-67.
The Cardinals trailed 60-51 with 8:02 left. U of L quickly went on an 18-2 run, fueled by Mike James' offense and Caleb Glenn's relentless motor near the rim. The game turned upside down and the visitors, who missed nine of their final 11 field goal attempts, were never able to regain their footing.
Glenn was the man of the night, scoring a game-high 15 points and grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield had a similar performance, finishing the game with 13 points and nine rebounds. Tre White (14 points), Ty-Lah Johnson (12 points), Skye Clark (11 points) and James (11 points) join the frontcourt duo as double-digit scorers.
The run at Louisville spoiled what was supposed to be a heroic effort by Georgia Tech's Myles Kelly. The junior guard scored a career-high 36 points, an effort fueled by six shots from beyond the arc.
With Saturday night's results, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame are now tied for last in the ACC standings with a 3-10 record. All three schools are just one game behind No. 12 Boston College, which the Cardinals will play Tuesday night in Chestnut Hill.
Great crowd, great fight, great night.
I've said it for the past few weeks and I'll say it again. They'll get a few more wins this month and he'll get one win in the conference tournament. The bottom of this league sucks, but we have more talent than almost all of these teams, and to their credit, they continue to play hard.
