GONZALEZ, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Pet Food Bank in Gonzales is actively seeking donations of dog food, cat food, cat litter and flea prevention supplies.
Rescue Alliance founder Jonathan Enriquez said the need for pet food is even greater this year.
“Typically, during the off-season months, we do about 50 family visits a month. Sometimes it's closer to 300 a month,” Enriquez said.
With the year just starting, Enriquez said the pet food bank is in great need of donations. Pet food banks currently have many pending applications, he said, especially as people recover financially from the holidays.
“In fact, the number of applications is increasing, but the actual donations coming in are decreasing. Right now, we are in dire need of wet and dry dog and cat food,” Enriquez said.
The application requires identification, information on the animal's diet, and a photo of the pet, but there are no income requirements. Enriquez said this resource is available to Louisianans in need and will help many families.
Enriquez hopes the community will come together before it's too late.
“We don't help them. They are at high risk of being surrendered to animal shelters, and animal shelters across the country are already overcrowded or starving. And we want to make sure that all pets We want to feed them,” Enriquez said.
The food bank is asking people to drop off donations at the following locations:
- Rescue Alliance located at 12484 Highway 44 in Gonzales.
- Petstar Animal Care (38432 W. Airline Drive, Prairieville).
- PetSmart at 40451 Lowes Ave. in Gonzales.
