The Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter in Santa Maria hopes to house 36 dogs this weekend before construction begins on a new air conditioning facility Monday.
The Santa Barbara County Department of Animal Services (SBCAS) says the heating and air conditioning units will be replaced and the increased noise, activity and associated stress on the dogs will create challenges for the animals. That's it.
Improvement work is expected to last three weeks.
SBCAS is asking friends and neighbors to open their homes to foster pets during construction. The shelter provides food, supplies, and support to all foster families caring for SBCAS pets.
Additionally, the early March Name Your Price promotion will continue through the end of March at all three shelter locations: 1501 W. Central Ave., Lompoc; and 5473 Overpass Road, Santa Barbara.
“Nursing homes not only create much-needed space during construction, they also provide a respite from shelter life, much like a vacation for humans,” said Animal Services Director Sara Aguilar.
“We encourage anyone interested in permanent or temporary care for a pet to visit our shelter locations this weekend between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.,” she said. said.
