BELLINGHAM, Wash. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Looking for something to do in Whatcom County this weekend? Look no further because the MBN staff has you covered.
A great charity event will be held on Friday, March 22nd at the Bellingham Yacht Club. It's the Skookum Kids Charity Poker Tournament. It's the biggest and friendliest card game in town. All proceeds will go to Skookum Kids. This organization is a licensed foster parent organization that places children in loving homes, cares for children in emergency shelters, and operates activities. Children are certainly safe. Remember what Kenny Rogers said in “The Gambler”…
This is an unlimited Texas Hold'em tournament with a $125 buy-in. You can also purchase a VIP ticket for $175 which increases your starting chips by 50%. For many people, starting with more chips is a big advantage. All tickets come with a drink ticket and a T-shirt. Additionally, the top three finishers will receive prize packs. The Skookum Kids Charity Poker Tournament begins Friday night at 6pm at the Bellingham Yacht Club. Visit the event page at skookumkids.org to register. Also, in case you didn't know, the word “skookum” means strong, impressive, or brave.
Be sure to check out Cordata Gallery's Charting the World: A Journey Through Old and New Maps. There will be an opening reception Saturday from 4pm to 6pm, and the exhibit will be on view until his May 18th. This exhibition explores the history and diverse forms of maps, exploring their enduring importance in shaping the way we understand the world. The gallery is located at 465 West Stuart Road, and if you type it into Google Maps you'll see it's just past Whatcom Community College on the right. I think it's a great exhibit and it's completely free. For more information, visit cordatagallery.com.
