“Quarter Mania”
The Fortuna Kiwanis Club will hold its annual “Quartermania” event Friday at the River Lodge Conference Center, 1800 Riverwalk Drive in Fortuna.
Proceeds will be used to sponsor a number of projects, including scholarships for local youth.
Advance tickets for the event are $20. This includes admission, auction paddle, door prize entry, and dinner. Dinner includes a baked potato bar, salad, cookie, and water. Beer, wine, margaritas and sodas are also available for purchase. “Luckytinis” will be appearing again this year.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and guests can preview more than 120 items available for bidding.
Tickets for the Dutch raffle will also be on sale. A program will be provided to each guest with a description of each item, the item's value, and the number of quarters to be bid on.Bidding begins at 6:30 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring plenty of quarters, and additional quarters will be available for purchase at the event. The “All In” paddle can be purchased by him for $60. This includes placing a wager to win all the treasures at auction.

The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host free guided field trips at the Arcata Wetland Wildlife Refuge from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Chet Organ at the end of South I Street (Crop Lake) in Arcata to enjoy the easy trail. As spring begins to arrive, many resident birds may be singing, building nests, and showing signs of breeding activity. Shorebirds are likely to be abundant, so everyone will keep an eye out for willows, fern sandpipers, sandpipers, black snipes, and great sandpipers in the mud around mudflats, pond islands, and marshes.

The Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Kathryn Wendell will host a “Women and Girls Guided Field Trip” on the Hikshari Trail on Saturday from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Friends of the Arcata Marsh sponsors free tours of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge on Saturdays.
Participants will meet leader Paul Wilson in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street at 2 p.m., walk for 90 minutes focusing on the web of organisms that break down, reuse, and fix carbon, phosphorus, and nitrogen, and more. The Humboldt Arts Council will host “Second Saturday Family Arts Day” this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, 636 F St. in Eureka.
This monthly event is always free. Families are invited to participate in this art-making workshop that complements the museum's ongoing exhibits. These workshops are aimed at intergenerational learning and creation in a museum setting and are designed for everyone from beginners to art experts.
This Saturday, get ready to use recycled materials along with paint, paper, glue, and more to create a mixed-media art garden filled with colorful flowers and plants to celebrate the change of seasons. The day's project will be completed with the support and guidance of art educator Genevieve Jesub. All materials will be provided.
Wild bird watching event
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host free guided birding tours at Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.
Meet leader Ralph Butcher at the visitor center for a 2-mile walk along a wide, flat, easily accessible gravel trail. women's day
The International Women's Day celebration is scheduled for Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arcata Playhouse, 1215 Ninth Avenue in Arcata.
Raging Grannies will appear and guest speaker Susan Seaman, director of the Arcata Economic Development Corporation, will talk about investing in women to accelerate equity. She will sing songs of peace, freedom and activism by Jean Bramlett and Leslie Quinn, and there will also be a silent auction to benefit the Edirith Eckert/Jen McCovey Memorial Peace Scholarship.

About genealogy
The Redwood Genealogy Society will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 13 at Locha's Restaurant, 751 S. Fortuna Blvd. in Fortuna.
The program begins at noon with Susan Petersen, a continuing support member of the Redwood Genealogical Society.
These meetings are free and open to the public. An optional lunch of two tacos, chips and a drink is available for $15 including tax.

The Trinidad Civic Club will be holding a blood drive for the Northern California Community Blood Bank on March 13th from noon to 6 p.m. at Murphy's Market, 1 Main Street in Trinidad.
Trinidad Civic Club Co-President Jean West said: “The Civic Club has hosted blood drives for many years, but due to the dire need for life-saving blood, we are currently hosting 10 blood drives per year. We will resume our sponsorship activities as one of our social service projects.” .

Friends of the Redwood Library will be holding a special nonfiction book sale on March 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Eureka Library conference room, 1313 Third Street.
Anyone can participate in the sale. We have a wide selection of history, art and science books, as well as children's books. Hardcover is $1, paperback is 50 cents.
Cash sales are welcome. Small charges are also welcome. Credit cards are accepted for purchases of $5 or more. Proceeds from sales will benefit the entire Humboldt County Library System.

The Humboldt Chapter of the Nursing Honor Society will host “Nurses' Brunch (Night) Out: Surfing the 'Age Wave'” at Humboldt's Hospice in Eureka on March 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check-in begins at 9am.

Redwood Park Conservancy, California State Parks and the National Park Service will host a free “Exciting Adventure for All Abilities” on March 17 at 11 a.m. at Crescent Beach in Crescent City.
Activities include a treasure hunt with riddles, clues, games and relays that lead participants to 'gold coins', hidden 'gems' and 'buried treasure'. We will provide light meals and refreshments.
