Celebrating Mr. Rogers
The Arcata Library will celebrate those who helped celebrate Fred Rogers' birthday with a special reading from 11 a.m. to noon today (Wednesday) at the library, 500 Seventh Street.
The guest reader for Gerald and Piggy's book is County Library Director Chris Cooper. Michelle Debosh and Garrett Nada scoop ice cream. Oded Russo, City of Arcata Maintenance; Rene Chavez, trumpet teacher. Denny Dorsett, registered nurse; Musician of the Eureka Symphony Orchestra. and library volunteer Anne Kilby.

On Friday, the community is invited to the Meals Champions Day march at the Humboldt Senior Resource Center, 1910 California St. in Eureka.
Support Meals on Wheels Redwood Coast while enjoying food and drinks from local food trucks. Three local food trucks will be selling their menus in the HSRC main parking lot from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. These food truck vendors will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to Meals on Wheels Redwood Coast to help deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors in the area. .
There are three food vendors participating in the event: Fusion Bites (Brazilian-Chinese fusion), Higher Grounds (coffee drinks and more), and Los Giles (Mexican food).

scrape sale
The Ramage Sale will be held Friday from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Coastal Grove Charter School, 1897 S St. in Arcata.
On Sunday, the sale will last from 9 a.m. to noon, with everything half off. There will also be free piles available that day from 1-3 p.m.
marsh tour
Friends of the Arcata Marsh sponsors free tours of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge on Saturdays.
Meet leader Lynn Jones in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street at 2 p.m. for a 90-minute walk focusing on the human and natural history of the North Bay. The walk will take place rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Tour the swamp
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host free guided field trips at the Arcata Wetland Wildlife Refuge from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Rob Fowler at the end of South I Street (Crop Lake) in Arcata to enjoy the easy trail. As spring begins to arrive, many resident birds may be singing, building nests, and showing signs of breeding activity. Shorebirds are likely to be abundant, so everyone will keep an eye out for willows, sandpipers, sandpipers, sanders, black snipes, and great sandpipers that live in the mud around tidal flats, pond islands, and wetlands.
Wetland working day
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will hold a “Wiggi Swamp Volunteer Day” from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Help restore some of the bay trails by removing invasive plants and trash to create native bird-friendly habitat. The trail section will be located behind Bayshore Mall, and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart.

Dancing, with live music and a “great floor,” takes place every Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road in Eureka. Admission is $9.
evening walk
Join Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Janelle Ciownacki on March 27th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for an easy evening stroll through the Arcata Bog.
The tide is quite low so everyone can watch the sandpiper behavior in the mud and you might even see a night heron take flight in the evening. Participants will meet at the end of I Street (Crop Lake).
