Tour the swamp
Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, March 30th.
Participants will meet leader Barbara Reisman in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street at 2 p.m. for a 90-minute walk, rain or shine.

Wetland excursion
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host a free guided field trip at the Arcata Wetland Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, March 30th from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Kathryn Wendel at the end of South I Street (Crop Lake) in Arcata. Enjoy the easy trail.
As spring arrives, many resident birds may be singing, building nests, and showing signs of breeding activity. Shorebirds are likely to be abundant, so everyone will keep an eye out for willows, sandpipers, sandpipers, sanders, sandpipers, and killer whales on mudflats, pond islands, and mud around marshes. .
bird watching trip
Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Ken Burton will present a field trip to Loleta Bottoms on March 31 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This portion of the Eel River floodplain is highly productive for birds such as raptors, shorebirds, and grassland passerines. Pre-trip rainfall will determine how far participants can travel.
Participants will meet Burton in front of Loreta Grocery, and from there everyone will carpool together in a caravan. Providing pancakes
The Trinidad Lions Club will be holding a pancake breakfast and book sale on March 31st from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinidad Elementary School, 300 Trinity Street, Trinidad.
The menu includes pancakes, eggs, a choice of ham or sausage, or biscuits and egg gravy. Drinks are also included. Breakfast costs $8 for adults and $4 for children. Books on sale range in price from 25 cents to $1.
Sales of aftermarket gear
Friends of the Dunes will be holding their annual “Get Outside Gear Sale” on April 6th.
Find great deals on gently used outdoor gear while supporting the cause of free outdoor education programs for Humboldt County children and stewardship of the local dune ecosystem.
What is outdoor gear? Camping and backpacking equipment, kayaks and canoes, surfboards, bicycles, hiking boots, and more.
The sale will be open from 11 a.m. to noon for Friends of the Dunes members and noon to 3 p.m. for the general public. At 2 p.m., prices on remaining gear will be reduced.
This sale supports Friends of the Dunes' education and stewardship programs, provides the community with great deals on outdoor gear, and encourages used purchases that benefit the environment.
