Bird watching tour
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail on April 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. with leader Ralph Butcher.
This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species richness and diversity compared to many remote locations. Listen carefully for cormorants, loons, grebes, and even otters diving for food in the bays along the trail. This walk is a flat, paved path that is wheelchair accessible. To join this field trip, please email Ralph at thebook@reninet.com.
Wild bird watching event
Celebrate Earth Day with night bird and plant viewing. Join Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Janelle Czonacki in front of Mad River Brewery in Blue Lake on April 22 from 5:50 to 7 p.m.
From there, everyone crosses the Mad River Bridge and walks along the levee or through the cottonwoods. This is the best place to see birds in any area. Participants will look for sparrows, wrens, swallows, birds of prey, and even nesting deer. Along the way, participants will observe plants and discuss how they are connected to local bird species.
