CHARLOTTE, N.C. —junior Emma Lemley Everything went well on Wednesday, striking out eight Charlotte batters in four innings, but it wasn't enough as the 18th/12th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies lost to the 49ers 8-4.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Lemley pitched four innings for Virginia Tech (18-4-1), allowing two runs (all earned) on three hits and one walk.

how did it happen
The Hokies quickly picked up steam and took a one-run lead in the top of the first inning. Virginia Tech had an RBI single from Peck and scored Ritter from third base.
The Hokies then held the 49ers scoreless and extended their lead into the third inning. Virginia Tech scored on a solo home run by fourth-year player Georgianna Barefoot after Fagan had one out, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Hokies.
Virginia Tech's lead was gone by the time the seventh inning arrived, and Charlotte took an 8-2 advantage as the Hokies cut the gap to 8-4. The Hokies added two points on Ritter's two-run homer to center field. The ball game ended after a seventh inning rally.
