Las Cruces Public Schools announced that the district's chief technology officer, who has been an educator in the district for more than 21 years, was recognized nationally this month for his work in the field of educational technology.
Joshua Silver is a finalist in two 2024 EdTech Awards categories: EdTech Leadership Award and EdTech Trendsetter Award, according to a report from the school district.
The EdTech Awards were established in 2011 by EdTech Digest to recognize contributions in technology, leadership, and innovation in K-12 and higher education.
LCPS said in a news release that Mr. Silver was named LCPS' “Teacher of the Year'' in 2014 and in addition to his classroom instruction, he serves as dean of students at Arrowhead Park Early College High School and director of online teaching and learning. He said he served. Currently, the district said he is leading efforts to build a student technician program that will expand internship opportunities at LCPS.
“We want to continue to build a technology pipeline for our students and provide opportunities in the workplace,” Silver said in a news release. “This is a model we would love to see other districts adopt. Not only will it give students the opportunity to gain work experience, but they will also learn valuable skills that will benefit the entire community.”
Silver also designed and hosted Impact 24, a regional technology conference open to all educators in southern New Mexico. He is also known as the founder of the Tell the Story Film Showcase, one of the only film festivals in the state to feature student-produced films. The film festival celebrated its second year in March and featured more than 200 student films.
