We've been talking about nausea since Saturday, but Kentucky's win over Auburn was pretty good. The upset win gave the Cats some much-needed momentum, opening the door for a double-bye in the SEC Tournament and giving them a signature Quad 1 win in their NCAA Tournament restart.
Heading into the game against Auburn, Kentucky's expected seeds for the NCAA Tournament ranged from No. 6 to No. 8. After the victory on the plains, The Cats are currently being looked at as the No. 5 seed. There is room for growth. Three of Kentucky's remaining six games are in the first quad. If the Cats can build on their momentum from Saturday and avoid mistakes, they could climb even higher by selection Sunday.
Here's where the Cats stand on the latest bracketology.
ESPN: 5th seed
Joe Lunardi moved Kentucky up from the seed line to the No. 5 seed in Sunday's daily update. This morning he gave a full update on ESPN. Kentucky is in the Midwest region of this lottery and will play the opening game in Spokane. If the Cats advance to the Sweet 16, they could face No. 1 seed Purdue in Detroit.
Lunardi's latest seed list ranks Kentucky at No. 18, behind Wisconsin and just below the No. 4 seed line.
Mike Decourcy: 5th seed
In his FOX Sports bracket predictions, Mike DeCourcy projects Kentucky to be the No. 5 seed in the Western Region and face No. 12 seed Indiana State in the first round. In this scenario, Arizona would be the No. 1 seed and a Sweet 16 matchup against the West Coast Wildcats could be scheduled in Los Angeles for the Elite Eight spot.
Andy Katz: 5th seed
In an update on the NCAA's official March Madness account, Andy Katz pegs the Cats as the No. 5 seed in the South, potentially facing No. 4 seed Creighton in the second round. Top-seeded Houston could be Kentucky's Sweet 16 opponent, and Dallas will be in the wild. If they advance to the Elite Eight, the Cats could face either No. 2 seed Tennessee or No. 3 seed Duke.
USA Today: 5th seed
The USA Today panel, consisting of Paul Meyerberg, Eric Smith and Eddie Timanas, also decided on the South's pairing of No. 5 seed Kentucky and No. 1 seed Houston. The other No. 5 seeds are Auburn, Wisconsin and Texas Tech.
CBS Sports: 6th seed
Of all the national media outlets, Jerry Palm has the lowest rating for the Cats. He has Kentucky as the lowest No. 6 seed, just above the No. 7 seed line. In this scenario, the Cats could face No. 3 seed Duke in the second round in Brooklyn for a chance to play No. 2 seed Kansas in Los Angeles.
