Karl Storz announced the release of the CollaboratOR 3D app for Apple Vision Pro, which provides immersive surgical education.
This means new medical technology applications are coming to Apple's VR headsets, and Siemens Healthineers and Stryker have recently announced similar products.
Karl Storz designed the application in collaboration with software developer T1V to complement the functionality of OR1, an integrated operating room solution. The company said it recognized the need to improve the educational experience and collaboration opportunities for surgeons. This includes new surgical residents and active surgeons from a wide range of specialties.
CollaboratOR 3D allows surgical staff to immerse themselves in 3D surgical content without ever entering the operating room. This enhances learning opportunities and allows teams to scale their training efforts.
This application leverages the power of Apple Vision Pro to blend digital content with the physical world. Karl Storz said this will allow for closer coordination, communication and education between surgical teams. The company says it was not intended for use during surgery, but was designed to take advantage of the innovative display. Karl's Storz endoscopy system also provides 3D/4K surgical video quality.
Connie Padden, director of OR1 technology integration at Karl Storz US, said: “We continue to work with T1V to explore the future of medical education and collaboration in the operating room. The release of the CollaboratOR 3D app for Apple Vision Pro brings today's most pressing medical needs to tomorrow's. A long-term vision for applying technology. Harnessing the power of fully immersive spatial computing will further advance our mission to enable care anywhere.”
