Bessemer truck driver Dee Miller saw the missing marsupial jumping around outside Birmingham on Sunday night and took a video, AL.com reported.
“I'm sure they're looking for that,” Miller told AL.com. “Until I posted the video, I had never heard of anyone (an exotic animal owner) here.”
Convinced no one would believe her, Miller grabbed her phone and began recording, WTVM reported. According to the television station, the kangaroo jumped at a fast pace.
Bessemer police detective. Justin Burmeister said the kangaroo owner apparently keeps several exotic pets at his home in the city, AL.com reported. Mr Burmeister said on Monday that the kangaroo was later captured by its owner.
The kangaroo was small, measuring 2 to 4 feet tall, Miller said. He said he was in the car with his mother when he saw the kangaroo about five blocks from his home.
“I said, 'Mom, do you see that?'” Miller told AL.com. “Yes, there was a kangaroo standing on the road.'' I said, “It's a kangaroo, Mom.'' Then it jumped into the grass. ”
Miller said she was glad she recorded the encounter.
“People will say, 'No, there are no kangaroos in Bessemer,'” Miller told AL.com.
