Jets, Lady Jets split with Albany Tech

USA – The South Georgia Tech Lady Jets earned an impressive 88-64 victory over the Albany Tech Lady Titans on Saturday, clinching the 20th straight win of the season for first-year head coach Jason Carpenter. However, the Jets were not so lucky, losing an 82-62 decision to the Titans in the second half of a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) doubleheader.
“Breaking the 20-win mark is a proud accomplishment in any year in college basketball, especially this year given the struggles we had early in the season,” said SGTC Athletic Director and Lady Jets Head Coach Jason Carpenter. “Our team has continued to grow throughout the season and is now playing its best basketball when it matters most.”
The Lady Jets needed a come-from-behind 24-point victory against Albany Tech on Saturday. Albany Tech led 26-15 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Jets rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Titans 24-9 and scoring 39 at the end of the first half. We took a lead of 35 against them.
The Lady Jets continued to outscore Albany Tech 49-29 in the second half, winning 88-64 and improving to 20-9 overall and 13-4 in the conference. South Georgia Tech is currently 17-0 in the GCAA East and is ranked second behind Georgia Tech. Central Georgia Tech is No. 3 in his GCAA at 12-5, and Albany Tech is No. 4 in his GCAA at 8-9. The Lady Jets will play at home against the undefeated East Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Freshman guard Mio Sakano and sophomore center Maeva Fotsa tied for the top scorers with 17 points each. Fozza had a double-double night, leading the team with 17 points and 16 rebounds. In addition to 17 points, Sakano recorded eight assists and two rebounds.
Three other Lady Jets scored in double figures, with Greta Carollo scoring 16 points. She went 4 of 5 from the 3-point line. She also had eight rebounds. Vera Gneidin scored 14 points and Enola Papan added 13 points for the Lady Jets. Papan made 4 of 5 from the 3-point line on the night, including 4 of 4 in the first half.
Isabel de Souza Bueno led the Lady Jets with seven points, and Maria Favero and Destiny Bishop each finished with two points.
After the Lady Jets won by 24 points, the Jets played a very good first half against the top-ranked Albany Tech Titans. The Jets were tied 29-29 with 1:07 left in the first half, but the Titans made a final second basket to take a 31-29 lead.
The Jets took the lead in the second half and tied the score at 31-31 in the first minute. Both teams battled back and forth for the next few minutes, but Albany Tech stayed ahead and outplayed the Jets.
The Jets remained scoreless for nearly five minutes into the second half, and at one point Albany Tech increased their lead to 30 points at 82-52, but the Jets came back and scored 10 points before the final buzzer sounded. did.
Freshman Kamarion Johnson was the Jets' leading scorer with 16 points. Deonte Williams had 12 points, followed by Kameron Forman with 11 points. Justin Evans finished with seven points, Vaughn Prosser six, Darryl Bod four, Jalen Woods three, Israel Momodu two and Japheth Martinez one. .
The Jets are currently 9-5 in the conference, tied for third place with South Georgia State and Georgia Highlands. Albany Tech is No. 1 in his GCAA record at 12-2, while Central is No. 2 at 11-4.
The Jets will host Gordon State College on Wednesday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m., and the Jets and Lady Jets will play their regular season finale against East Georgia on Second Day on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. wage war.
