JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A social role-playing game called “Assassin” is trending across the county. Teenagers and young adults form teams and attempt to “assassinate” members of the opposing team.

The game is described as being played using fake weapons, with players hiding in the dark and attacking other participants in the game.
“While this game is fun, there are serious safety concerns,” JSO said in an official statement. “If a participant is hiding in the dark and jumps out at another 'Assassin' player, someone present could easily interpret the situation as an actual attack. ”
It may sound like child's play, but the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department is concerned about the safety of its players. The public may not understand that gaming behavior is harmless.

The concern is that armed citizens are unaware that the game is being played to exercise their right to self-defense or the defense of others. This can result in injury or death to players of the game.
“In the darkness, the person may believe the toy gun is a real gun and there is a threat of imminent death or serious bodily harm,” JSO said.
Police are urging parents to talk to their children about the dangers of gaming.
