Ivy Tech Community College will host two first-time visit days designed specifically for homeschool students in grades 9-12 and their parents to learn more about the college.
Homeschool University Visit Days will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Ivy Tech locations in Columbus on March 1 and in Franklin on March 8.
“This is an opportunity for students and their families to come and learn about Ivy Tech and be informed as they make decisions about their next steps,” said Chris Schilling, director of marketing and communications for Ivy Tech . “Those students may have different questions and needs than other students.”
Lunch will be served at noon both days and students and their parents are welcome to attend either day.
“We have some students who have been homeschooled. It's a great next step for students because it's local, we have campuses all over the state, it's very accessible, it's very affordable. You can come to Ivy Tech, take classes, and earn your degree while living at home.”
Faculty from programs such as nursing, advanced manufacturing, and information technology will also be available to answer questions.
“This will be what we call an immersive experience. It's not just a group conversation,” Schilling said. “We will also have virtual reality headsets that will give students a very close sense of what these careers are like in real life.”
One virtual reality simulator highlights a surgical technology program, allowing participants to see what it's like to help during a surgery.
Attendees will also learn about dual credit and accelerated degree opportunities, and how Ivy Tech can help students transfer to a four-year university for continuing education.
Students or parents interested in participating should RSVP online at link.ivytech.edu/homeschoolvisit.
