FSU football has signed one of the nation's top defensive back classes for the 2024 recruiting cycle. They also took a large defensive backs class in 2023, so they will have a choice in who they take in the 2025 recruiting class. The Noles have four commitments for 2025, but no defensive backs in the class yet. However, one of their top targets appears to be favoring the Noles. Four-star defensive back Gregory Xavier Thomas recently received two crystal ball projections for the Noles. Thomas came to campus several times last summer and fall for camps and games. He returned to FSU for “Junior Day” in January. He attended American Heritage Academy, where FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain was the former head coach. FSU has added several former American Heritage players to its roster recently, but it goes without saying that Thomas is one of the better defensive backs in the 2025 class.
He is ranked No. 201 overall and No. 25 among cornerbacks nationally. He has elite size and length at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. These are traits FSU covets in its secondary and are the reason they led the nation in pass breakups in 2023. Although Thomas doesn't expect LSU, Miami, Texas A&M, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Colorado State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, and many others to take many defensive backs in that class. Gregory I wrote about the rewards. The quality players coming to FSU this spring are a direct result of that. FSU will have a big recruiting weekend in March, and that's when Gregory Xavier Thomas We'll see if he returns to campus.
