Registration is now open for Iowa high school students in grades 9-12 for Business Horizons 2024, a five-day innovation program offered by the Iowa Chamber of Commerce (ABI).
Business Horizons will be held July 14-18 on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines.
This year marks the 41st year for this program, presented by the Iowa Chamber of Commerce (ABI) Foundation.
For one week, participants team up with business advisors to identify real-world problems that impact students and business solutions. Over the weekend, teams will participate in competitions including investor pitches, infomercial screenings, and exhibitions in front of live judges.
The week will include workshops and keynotes from Iowa industry experts, team-building activities, local business tours, fun after-hours events, and more.
“Business Horizons gave me a glimpse of what college life is like and gave me the opportunity to meet new friends and professionals from a variety of industries,” said Bellevue Class of 2023 participant. said Isaac Brinker, a student at Marquette Catholic High School. “As the week progressed, my view of our future in Iowa became clearer. Seeing so many volunteers and businesses investing time and resources in this program, I realized that I truly believe in fostering bright futures for people.”
In the Iowa ABI Business Horizons program, participants develop the leadership skills they need to prepare for the future, gain insight into potential careers, meet business mentors, and gain renewed motivation and confidence to take their next steps. You will have the opportunity to take it home. Students may also receive transferable college credit for their participation.
“Business Horizons provides a unique opportunity for students from across Iowa to come together in a spirit of collaboration and apply their knowledge and skills to projects of interest,” said Program Director Jesse.・Mr. McCurry says: “All students can benefit from this experience, regardless of their career interests.”
The program costs $400 and includes all meals, lodging, activities, and materials for five days. Students who register by May 27th will receive a $50 discount. Need-based financial aid is available and can be requested through the online registration form. Registrations will be accepted until July 5th or until the program reaches capacity.
