Research aims to address sex and gender-specific factors in mental health
Toronto, April 3, 2024 /CNW/ – The Women's Brain Health Initiative (WBHI) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Brain Canada and the Krembil Foundation. $3.3 million Invested to address sex and gender gaps in Canadian brain health research.
With support from the Erica Legacy Foundation and Power Corporation. Canadathis collaboration will fund three Canadian researchers and their teams. Lisa Galea Addiction and Mental Health Center Dr. susan george in University of Torontoand dr. Stephanie Beaugrand in University of Calgary.

Each researcher receives: $1.1 million From Brain Canada The basics of a better mental health program. Their research will focus on investigating mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and postpartum depression, with an emphasis on gender-specific factors and differences.
“We are very excited about this grant, partially funded by WBHI, to support our research on postpartum depression,” said Dr. Lisa Galea. “Historically, very little research has focused squarely on women's brain health and why the postpartum period is a time when birth parents are most susceptible to mental health disorders. This highlights the need for women's mental health. This is why funding specifically for women's mental health is important.'' ”

The Women's Brain Health Initiative, a Canadian philanthropic foundation founded in 2012, is the largest resource for evidence-based information on women's brain health. The foundation is an important force in raising critical awareness of the unacceptable contradictions in brain research that concern women at alarming rates.
WBHI's research, education, and awareness programs are essential to improving the brain health and mental health of women, their caregivers, and their families, and fund research to combat brain aging diseases that affect women. It is also essential to promote the urgency to invest. Funding for this new research was made possible through WBHI's Stand Ahead Challenge.
