Instagram users are raising awareness about a scam in which scammers impersonate police officers to force people to send money. Charanjeet Kaur said scammers exploit the urgency and instill fear in people to exploit their victims.
In the video, Kaur is seen talking to a person whose number has a photo of two police officers. The person claims to be the inspector for: delhi police She then tells him that her sister, along with others, has been arrested for threatening the minister's son. So the “inspector'' asks for a compromise and demands 30,000 rupees to release her sister.
“At such times, some people get scared when they see the police DP and transfer money without thinking and end up falling victim to the scam.I knew about this scam and managed to protect myself. Saved. Please share this information with all your family and friends to avoid such scams.'' Kaur's caption, loosely translated from Hindi, reads:
