Cortez announced the “Picture Perfect Pets” photo contest Tuesday as a way for pet owners to celebrate Pet Parent Day, which is usually held on the last Sunday of April.
“Responsible pet parents exemplify compassion, dedication, and a commitment to the welfare of their pets and play a critical role in ensuring the happiness and well-being of their furry friends,” Cortez said in a news release. Ta.
A county judge is asking interested pet parents in Hidalgo County to submit photos of their furry friends and “other beloved pets” as part of the contest.
“Let us unite hearts and feet in a beautiful journey of love and companionship and celebrate a bond that transcends words,” he further said.
Photos will be accepted starting Wednesday and the deadline for entries is April 16th at noon.
Only one application per person will be accepted.
Starting at 9 a.m. on April 17, citizens will be able to vote for their favorite pet by “reacting” to a photo on Judge Cortez's official Facebook post.
Cortez, who previously owned a dog of her own, said Wednesday that the photo contest is a good way for people to share their love of animals with others.
“This is just a way to unite our community around fun and allow people to share their pets with each other so that they can find and enjoy the joy that pets bring,” Cortez said. Ta.
But he also hoped the photo contest would serve as a reminder of the great responsibility that comes with owning a pet, especially in the wake of two high-profile animal abuse cases in recent weeks.
“As you know, there have been several arrests for animal cruelty in recent days. We want there to be awareness,” Cortez said.
“I think respecting pet ownership creates a better society. It brings joy, but it also comes with responsibility,” the county judge added.
Cortez said he looks forward to seeing everyone's photos, adding that the contest is not just limited to dog and cat owners. If you have a pet friend with fur, fins, feathers, or scales, we encourage you to submit a photo.
You can submit your photos by filling out this Google Docs form.
Four winners will be given a pet photo session as a gift.
