Thank you for participating in the 2024 STRS Ohio Healthcare Program. As we begin a new planning year, here are some helpful reminders. Your plan is your primary source of information about coverage, so please contact your plan directly if you have any questions.
- ID card — If you haven't yet received your new ID card, contact Aetna or CVS.
- Prescription mailing service — Valid prescriptions for non-controlled drugs with remaining refills were transferred from Express Scripts to CVS. However, no payment information or refill instructions were transferred. Next steps: If you haven't already done so, contact CVS to provide your payment information and set up automatic replenishment. Please note that it is important to provide your payment information to CVS because we cannot fill your prescription without payment.
- Changes in medication status — CVS has mailed letters to enrollees who are taking drugs that change their copays, prescription drugs that are no longer covered, or drugs that are subject to prior authorization, quantity limits, or step therapy. Next steps: If any action is required, please follow the instructions provided in the letter. You may also need to contact your doctor.
- prescription change — Even if you receive a letter from CVS stating that your medication is no longer covered, to give you time to work with your doctor to make changes to your medication or start the prescription exception process, please apply in 2024. You can get your current medication until March 30, 2020.
- New usage management rules — If your current medication has new rules regarding prior authorization, dose limits, or step therapy, you should work with your doctor to review the requirements for your medication. Medicare enrollees will continue to have access to their current medications through March 30, 2024, even with new availability rules under CVS. However, those without Medicare will need new utilization controls starting January 1, 2024. Work with your doctor now to meet your new requirements.
- pre-approval — For prescriptions: Previous authorizations were transferred from Express Scripts to CVS. Please contact CVS to confirm prior authorization. For hospitals/medical services: If you have been granted prior authorization in 2023 for a procedure or treatment scheduled after January 1, 2024, please contact Aetna to review your prior authorization.
- Planning documents — The 2024 Plan Coverage Document is available on the STRS Ohio website under the “Health Care” section of “Publications and Forms.” If you have questions about your coverage, please contact Aetna or CVS directly.
