The Helen Woodward Animal Center's Pets Without Walls Program and the Lucky Duck Foundation will host a special event for both people and pets on Thursday, February 15th at 9 a.m. at Father Joe's Neil Good Day Center. Deliver a cozy gift.
Helen Woodward Animal Center launched Pets Without Walls after learning that one in four people experiencing homelessness own a pet.
The program, which started seven years ago, is proud to be a part of its efforts to help homeless families by keeping their furry friends fed and healthy. Pets Without Walls conducts regular weekly visits to San Diego shelters led by Alpha Project, Father Joe's, Interfaith, PACE, Meals on Wheel, and PATH to provide health screenings, microchipping, preventative care, important vaccinations, and Flea and tick treatments, pet food (through an expanded AniMeals program), and donations of human clothing and blankets from the center's Orphan Objects Resale Store will also be provided.
The Lucky Duck Foundation was founded in 2005 by Pat and Stephanie Kilkenny to raise funds and awareness for numerous charities throughout San Diego, including the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Co-founders will match all gifts up to $1.5 million each year. In 2016, the foundation recognized the growing need for urgent action to address San Diego's homelessness crisis and realized that Lucky Duck could have an even greater impact if it focused its efforts solely on homelessness. It was judged.
Helen Woodward Animal Center is proud to partner with the Lucky Duck Foundation for the 2024 Cozy Critter visit. As San Diego's evening temperatures heat up in earnest, the center's Pets Without Walls program is opening a new pet shelter designed specifically to keep the beloved pets of the city's homeless population safe and protected from the elements. We offer pet supplies such as sweaters, pet blankets, leashes, and pet supplies. pet hygiene products. At the same time, the Lucky Duck Foundation will be distributing sleeping bags, coats, food, water, and other necessities locally to friends in need.
“The love that these pets and their owners have for each other is truly heartwarming,” said Renee Lesko, vice president of development at Helen Woodward Animal Center. “It means a lot to us to partner with Lucky Duck and support animal care in this area.” These people and pets can stay healthy, warm, and focused on getting back on their feet. ”
