Families in East New Orleans had access to a variety of health screening, lifestyle and physical activity programs.
NEW ORLEANS — On Saturday, local health leaders and the community gathered at the Joe Brown Recreation Center for Health and Wellness Day.
Yvens Laborde, the city's chief community health officer, said this comes after several East New Orleans residents told Oschner they felt there were barriers to accessing and continuing care. It is said that this was in response to the
“It’s really important that we put the needs of the community front and center by hosting events like this,” he said.
The event provided families in East New Orleans with access to a variety of health screenings, including HIV testing and access to the flu vaccine.
“We also personalize it and make it really helpful and fun and create an atmosphere of happiness and celebration, because people often associate health and well-being with doctors and hospitals.”
I was also able to learn about nutrition, lifestyle programs, and physical activity programs. Screening services will continue to be available through your doctor's office.
