February 14, 2024 – HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital is pleased to announce that it has completed a breakthrough procedure using an innovative surgical stapler with staple line reinforcement featuring bioabsorbable technology. Dr. Fernando Bailon, a skilled bariatric surgeon, performed the surgery using this innovative device.

This represents a major advance in bariatric surgery and is consistent with his HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital's commitment to providing solutions that lead to improved outcomes.
The device used in this procedure underwent a rigorous multisite IDE study in 62 patients, demonstrating its safety, efficacy, and performance comparable to or better than existing devices.
Corey Meade, CEO of HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital, expressed his excitement: This achievement reflects our dedication to advancing surgical approaches and delivering consistent results in bariatric surgery. ”
The surgery using this innovative stapler is an important milestone and reinforces the hospital's commitment to improving patient outcomes.
