Last night was a big show for Maison Martin Margiela as Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and other high-profile guests arrived at the show that concluded the Paris Haute Couture season. The season started with Valentino and Schiaparelli.
John Galliano, creative director of Maison Martin Margiela, unveiled Margiela's new Spring/Summer 2024 artisanal collection inside an abandoned vaulted venue along the Seine.
Among the celebrities gracing the front row of the show, Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie became a walking piece of art when she appeared wearing a milky white latex crinoline over a shimmering blue corset. To complete the look, her neck and hands were covered with a porcelain collar and skeleton hands.
The show began with Lucky Love, a French performer and drag queen who impersonates Freddie Mercury. The impersonator opened the show wearing a men's overcoat, which he took off to expose his chest and missing left arm, before performing a gospel version of his hit song “Now I Don't Need Your Love.” sang.
Silent black and white short movie by Moulin rouge A film directed by Baz Luhrmann was also screened immediately after.
John Galliano's much-talked-about haute couture show precedes the release of a new documentary about the rise, fall and rise of the projects in which the Gibraltar-born designer was an active participant. The title of the documentary is High & Low: John Galliano Directed by Oscar winner Kevin McDonald.
The documentary film will first be screened at the Rome Film Festival in October 2023, and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States in March.
