TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) is hosting the Retro Rescue Vintage Market this weekend, celebrating the love of all things vintage.
You can also buy collectible vintage items or adopt a senior dog or cat.
On both Friday and Saturday, 116 animals will be available for adoption at the market, and fees will be waived for older animals.
Karen Holish, HSSA's chief development officer, said more than 300 senior pets were adopted and all were found new homes during the 2023 financial year.
Holish said most senior pets require little or no training, making them a great option for pets with gentle lifestyles.
“Living in a shelter can be stressful for older pets, and we work hard to keep them comfortable, healthy, and safe while they are here,” Holish said. said. “What they really want to be is sitting at home on the couch with you.”
They have 8 more senior pets and 12 other animals ready for adoption once kennel space becomes available.
“Adopting from a place like the Southern Arizona Humane Society makes room for another pet in our shelter,” Holish said. “So whether you take a puppy, take a kitten, or do a retro rescue, it's all helping to save lives.”
The market's vintage items come from HSSA's thrift store, hand-picked by longtime employee Dave Temple.
Temple said she has been storing many items for the market for about a year.
“We have a huge amount of vintage and designer clothing,” Temple said. We have artwork, collector's items, Western miscellaneous goods, and Western art.
Whether you're a vintage enthusiast, dog lover, or just someone who believes in second chances, this market is a heartwarming reminder that love knows no age.
The market will be held at HSSA, 635 W. Roger Road, on March 8th from 4pm to 7pm and March 9th from 10am to 4pm.
