Tech Athletic Director J. Butt said more than $85 million was “100 percent philanthropic from generous individuals, partners, and leaders of all kinds throughout the Georgia Tech athletic community.” It said it was assembled for a 100,000-square-foot facility that will house offices and meeting space. In addition to a player lounge for the football program, it also features strength and conditioning spaces, a dining hall, nutrition room, sports science and data analysis areas, and sports medicine and recovery rooms.

The Fanning Center will also include a sports science lab.
“This landmark building will have an incredible impact on all of our student-athletes,” Butt said. “In today's changing environment, this is a statement about Georgia Tech athletics and what it means to our student-athletes. We provide the highest level of care and support. As we continue to grow and rebuild Georgia Tech's athletic department, our top priority is that our student-athletes, their care, and development are the foundation of everything we do. .”
Mr. Batt, Mr. Fanning, UT President Angel Cabrera and UT Football Coach Brent Key all join UT Baseball Coach Danny Hall, former UT President Bud Peterson, and former UT Basketball Legend. He spoke at an event attended by dignitaries including Brian Oliver. Oliver works at his DPR Construction, which is responsible for the construction of Fanning's center.

The Fanning project is scheduled for completion in 2026. Demolition of Edge Center has not yet begun, but demolition and preparation work inside the building is progressing smoothly.
“The buildings are great and the buildings are great, but what's inside those buildings is what's important. What these buildings offer us is something special for our student-athletes here at Georgia Tech.” “It's a big deal,” Key said of the facility, which has a particularly big impact on his program. “Let's not get the story twisted here. Our football program has two goals. The first is to graduate our players and have them leave here better than when they came in. Number two is to win championships, the state championship and the ACC championship, and if we take care of those two things, everything else will fall into place.
“(The Fanning Center) is going to give us more resources, more technology, more space, all of that to make that happen. This is a big step forward.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Fanning was presented with a commemorative gold shovel, and attendees received their own mini gold shovels.
