ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Sturdivant had 17 points, Myles Kelly and Baye Ndongo had double-doubles, and Georgia Tech beat Syracuse 65-60 on Saturday.
Ndongo had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Tafale Ngapare had 10 points for the Yellow Jackets (11-15, 4-11 ACC).
A 12-2 run in which Sturdivant scored eight points gave Georgia Tech a 48-38 lead with about 12 minutes left in the second half. JJ Sterling scored his six points and Syracuse quickly cut the deficit to 50-46. The Orange tied the score at 52 on a layup by Kyle Cuff Jr., then took a one-point lead on a 3-pointer by Chris Bell.
The Yellow Jackets never relinquished the lead despite a 3-pointer by Sturdivant and 2-of-8 field goals in the final 4 1/2 minutes. Kelly made a layup and completed a 3-point play with a free throw to give Georgia Tech a 62-58 lead with 31 seconds left. Syracuse got the Orange within two points with 26 seconds left on a pair by Judah Mintz.
Sturdivant made the free throw with 21 seconds left. The second try was missed, but Kelly got the rebound, was fouled and made a pair for a five-point lead. The Orange made two errors in the final 10 seconds and were 0-for-6 with 5:50 remaining.
Sterling had 18 points and Mintz added 14 for Syracuse (16-10, 7-8). Malik Brown had six points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists.
Georgia Tech led in rebounds 49-28.
Syracuse took an early 9-2 lead, but Georgia Tech rallied and started a 13-2 run, tied it at 21 on Ndongo's jumper, and led 32-23 with three minutes left in the first half. A 3-point play by Sterling and several layups by Mintz brought Syracuse to within two points, then Gaparet scored to give Georgia Tech a 34-30 lead heading into halftime.
Syracuse, which was coming off a win over No. 7 North Carolina, will play North Carolina State on Tuesday.
Georgia Tech hosts Clemson on Wednesday.
