Tech was unable to remain undefeated to start the season, losing 11-4 at home to visiting Cornell University (a team that went 9-26 and 8-13 in the 2023 Ivy League) on Sunday. . The Yellow Jackets committed two errors and gave up five earned runs in the series final loss.
The Jackets started this week with a 7-4 come-from-behind victory over Statesboro and Georgia Southern. The comeback was emphasized with four runs in the 8th inning, and infielder Mike Becchetti delivered a big blow with a two-out double.
Tech won the first two games against Cornell University by a combined score of 21-8 at Russ Chandler Stadium. In Saturday's game, Aiden Finatelli (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings in a 12-2 victory. Finatelli currently has a 0.82 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.
Outfielder Trey Junger, transferred from Wofford, is currently averaging .412 in five games at the plate for the Jackets. Freshman center fielder Drew Burress is already 14-for-30 with RBI and a team-leading five home runs.

Tech will remain in the Peach State for its next four games, starting with a home game against Georgia State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Panthers (2-5) defeated Seton Hall 3-2 on Sunday, ending their losing streak at five.
The Jackets will then host archrival Georgia at Russ Chandler Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs are off to a 7-0 start and will play against Presbyterian on Tuesday and Michigan State on Wednesday before heading to Atlanta.
Georgia State and Tech are scheduled to meet again Saturday at Foley Field in Athens at 2 p.m., and then play the series finale at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville on Sunday at 3 p.m.
