The national average gasoline price on Friday was $3.53 per gallon, nearly $0.10 higher than a year ago, according to AAA data.
“Gasoline prices are a lot like seasonal temperatures; they start to rise with the arrival of spring,” said AAA spokesman Andrew Gross.
The national average was at a higher level on Friday. It is the first time since late December that it has exceeded a year ago.
In California, the most expensive state for gasoline, prices approached $4.97 per gallon, an increase of $0.14 from the same day last year.
