SALISBURY — A family of five was evacuated after a fire Friday in the 100 block of Crawford Street in Salisbury.
The family was not home when the fire broke out, but they had three pets, including a dog named Mystic and two guinea pigs, Heidi and Gunner. However, those pets were able to escape the fire safely.
The mother of the family, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the three children are aged 1, 6 and 10. The family said they were returning from a trip to Mooresville when they came out onto the street and saw emergency response vehicles and the fire. The engine was parked in front of the house.
The mother added that the family who is renting is planning to work with the landlord to start a GoFundMe. As of Monday, the GoFundMe page had not yet been set up. This story will be updated if changes occur.
The fire was determined to be accidental, according to the Salisbury Fire Marshal.
“There was an electrical problem in the attic,” the fire marshal said. “Everything there pointed to electrical manufacturing.”
The fire marshal said there was nothing suspicious and added that Ring camera footage from a nearby home confirmed the fire started in the attic.
The American Red Cross assisted with the evacuation.
