BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's swimming program competed Thursday for the second day of the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships, and the team finished the night in sixth place with 102 points.
At the end of the night, Tampa led the men's standings with 235 points, Nova Southeastern was second with 215 points and Florida Southern was third with 173 points.
Before the finals, freshman Akos Hadjagos successfully set a new program record in the men's 200 IM by finishing fourth in qualifying with a time of 1:49.82.
Hadjagos' time broke the record by just 0.02 seconds. Later in the evening, Hadjagos swam in the A final of the day and went on to beat her own record she had set earlier in the day, recording a time of 1:49.56, her first at SSC. He finished 6th in the individual event. Championship.
Looking at the 1000 free, Zachary Kopel was the Panther's top swimmer, swimming the meet with a time of 9:34.12 and finishing 12th at SSC.
Behind Florida Tech's Kopel was Brayden Homan, who finished 17th with a time of 9:39.69, followed by David Armstrong, who finished 24th with a time of 9:59.48, leading the University College of Technology in this event. The top three athletes finished.
Luke Altman represented the Crimson and Gray in the 50 Free B final, finishing 6th with a time of 20.82 seconds.
The second day ended with the 200 meter medley relay, with the Tech University team of Daniel Eisenberg, Connor Orth, Jay Jay Fonot and Matteo Caruso taking 6th place in the A final with a time of 1:30.03. Ta.
The Tech team of Zach Rees, Matthew Heaphy, Nathan Scott and Max Martino completed the race in a time of 1:30.35, taking second place in the B final.
