Federal investigators in South Florida have scrutinized transactions related to his eldest son, James Biden, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation related to a bankrupt rural hospital chain.
Two people familiar with the matter told Politico that the Sunshine State investigation could attract investment by President Biden's brother and his partners into the chain (Amecore Health) and other ventures in the Middle East. The initiative was investigated.
The efforts of James Biden, representing Amecore, resulted in a $200,000 payment to his brother Joe. The story is now part of the House's impeachment inquiry into the president.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors in the Pennsylvania Medicare fraud case had been seeking information about James Biden's activities as recently as last year, according to a third Politico source. The case involves Amecore Hospital profiting from tens of millions of dollars in illegal Medicare reimbursements.
“Jim Biden is not under investigation by federal law enforcement in Florida or Pennsylvania,” his attorney Paul Fishman said in a statement.
Representatives from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida and the Western District of Pennsylvania declined to comment when contacted by The Post.
James Biden testified before Congress last month that he was “looking for investment from Qatar” to finance Amecore's operations, but has since gone on to run Third Friday, a Florida-based investment advisory firm. He testified that he raised $20 million with help from Michael Lewitt.
Mr James added that he received $600,000 in bridge financing from Third Friday to cover payments to Amecore. However, the management company did not notify investors about the tens of millions of dollars transferred.
In 2022, these investors filed a lawsuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, alleging that Mr. Lewitt kept them in the dark about the “fake” Amecore loan and withheld hundreds of dollars from the Third Friday Fund to line his own pockets and pay James Biden. He claimed to have stolen $10,000.
The SEC also filed a civil complaint against Mr. Lewitt in September 2023 over this move, alleging that he had made “advance payments totaling more than $19 million” to Amecore “between January 2018 and November 2019” when he filed for bankruptcy. There were 45 cases.''
According to Politico, the FBI is involved in the case.
Joe Biden received $200,000 from his brother on March 1, 2018, the same day James Biden received the same $200,000 payment from Amecore.
According to a previous report by Politico, the current president was present during a phone call his brother made while working with Amecore, during which he revealed that James Biden had used the family name in a deal with the hospital chain. Case studies are also introduced.
According to Politico, attorney George Mesires, who represented James and Hunter Biden in their overseas business deals, also represented LeWitt in some of the transactions being investigated by federal authorities. It seems so. He did not respond to the media's request for comment.
The eldest son told Congress that $200,000 was wired from the former vice president's corporate bank account to repay Joe Biden, in the form of a check with a memo line marked “Loan Repayment.” He said it was a thing.
The March 2018 transfers, along with the $40,000 payment to Joe Biden in September 2017, were examined in bank records and witnesses seeking evidence of the presidential family's influence-peddling and foreign dealings. The revelations were made as part of the House's scrutiny of the presidential impeachment inquiry.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) told the Post, “The commercial and financial transactions involving Mr. James and Hunter Biden are being investigated by the Department of Justice, FBI, IRS, and SEC. “There is,” he said.
“Nothing is normal in the Biden family’s ‘business.’ The House Oversight Committee continues its investigation into President Biden’s abuse of office and his family’s corrupt scheme to make money in Biden’s name.” do.”
The House Judiciary Committee, which is conducting the impeachment investigation along with the Oversight and Ways and Means Committees, asked LeWitt to attend a taped press conference last December.
A spokesperson for the oversight board told the Post on Tuesday: “We are in contact with his attorney regarding when he will appear in court.”
James Biden said in testimony to the House Oversight Committee that after Amecore's bankruptcy, he ended up having to pay back $350,000, leaving only $250,000 in service costs. .
Initially made as a loan, the sum was paid in full by a mysterious third party, despite the first brother telling council that the money was “forgiven by Michael Lewitt”.
As part of an earlier dispute in 2019, the plaintiffs who sued James Biden and some of his associates received a package containing Middle Eastern currency with apparent blood stains and a message referencing “torture,” Knox said. The Bill News Sentinel previously reported.
The lawsuit was filed by two Tennessee health care companies, alleging that the first brother and his associates were accused of a “typical” plan to bankrupt the companies and steal their business models by withholding the prospect of foreign investment that never came. He was accused of engaging in a “fraudulent bait-and-switch scheme.”
The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount.
