Glendale, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) – John Arnold says On Your Side helped him lose $9,000 in bills. “Something happens when you participate,” he told On Your Side's Gary Harper. In fact, he happily held up his latest bill to show that he now owed nothing. “It says my balance is zero. So I'm very happy and my stress level has completely gone down.”
In a previous On Your Side report, John explained how 20-year-old carpets need to be replaced. “There’s more dirt from up and down traffic here,” he said, pointing out wear marks in the stairwell.
So after having a contractor come to his home and showing him samples of the carpet, John decided to move forward with the project at a cost of nearly $9,000. It was a lot of money, but the good news was that his contract stated that John had three days to cancel for any reason. “The contract states that he has three days to cancel on this type of purchase.”
But even though he canceled the next day, the carpet company did not notify the financial company, Synchrony Home. As a result, Synchrony continued to charge John his $9,000. “They're being charged for products they don't even have,” Harper said. “That's right, John answered. I don't feel well. I feel like someone is giving us a ride.”
On Your Side came on board and we got Synchrony. After John provided documentation with proof that he had in fact canceled on time with the carpet company, Synchrony waived the bill and said it would no longer pursue John for nine grand.
John says it all happened with the help of On Your Side. “It's great to have Gary Harper in the community because he can trust someone to really have his back. Basically, that's exactly what happened.”
