The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is reportedly investigating Amazon and a number of other online retailers and drone technology companies for allegedly selling illegal radio frequency equipment.
The FCC's action is consistent with an investigation conducted by NBC News that found more than a dozen companies selling equipment that interferes with licensed communications systems by transmitting competing radio signals. As the name suggests, these radio frequency jammers can be used to block Wi-Fi networks and disable security cameras and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, also known as drones).
Radio frequency jammers can interfere with licensed wireless communications services such as public safety services and networks. They are expressly prohibited from sale or sale in the United States under federal law and FCC rules.
According to an article about the network's investigation published on the NBC News website in mid-March, an FCC spokesperson confirmed that the commission continues to investigate multiple sales of illegal jamming devices. Ta. FCC spokesman Jonathan Uriarte said in a statement that it has filed multiple lawsuits against retailers, including Amazon, for potential violations of Commission rules related to marketing and selling devices without FCC authorization. We are continuing to investigate.”
