LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Basketball fans from Lincoln to Des Moines descended on Omaha on Saturday to watch the NCAA game at CHI Health Center.
Iowa State played Washington State, but many Cyclone fans like Scott and Teyonah Steenhoek agree it was a close enough game to drive for and was much better than watching the game on TV. .
“We're from Prairie City, which is just east of Des Moines,” Scott said. “Easy drive. This is his 5th March Madness tournament for us and we couldn't have had a better experience. Atmosphere. We enjoy supporting the Cyclones.”
Duane Asbe, a lifelong Iowa State fan, drove more than four hours to the game.
He wants his team to move forward, but he takes each game at a time.
“They're playing really well right now,” Asbe said. “They really connect from the coaching staff to the bench. They get along really well and are a fun team to watch.”
Jennifer McIntyre said her son plays basketball at MIT and she also enjoys the “fun of the sport.”
“The friendships we have built over the years have been amazing,” she said. “We had some great coaches who really supported the kids.”
Leo Milan said he always loved college basketball.
“There's something about the NCAA Tournament where all the fans from different schools come to the arena to cheer on their teams,” he said. “It's just the atmosphere.”
