Georgia Tech is looking for a major turnaround on defense this season, and there may be no unit that needs a turnaround more than its run defense. Georgia Tech had one of the worst run defenses in the nation last year, but it returns some leaders up front, including defensive tackle Zeke Biggers. Biggers will be one of the key players on the defense, he told the media after practice Thursday. This is all he had to say.
1. About Coach Simpson…
“We have a good relationship. Honestly, I'm with him every day. We watch film, we watch NFL tape, we watch line tape and everything else. And I like his coaching, he's a great coach, he's going to push you, he's going to coach you hard,' but he's going to push you and teach you all the techniques. He will help you understand everything from the basics. So I love that. ”
2. On how much he has improved since his first year…
“I've grown in weight and just mentally and I've made great progress. And I've grown in this program. So this is definitely where I was when I came in, my weight and my weight. , they were a little chubby kids, but now they're all toned.'' “Close-ups and all that. So I definitely – it's a little different. I love it.''
3. On how the defense is progressing under the new defensive coach…
“We feel we are taking a big step forward. Of course there are always things to improve, but we are taking a big step forward and I am sure we can get a lot out of this season.”
4. When playing different positions on the line…
“So, I think all of these things are versatile, but being able to not only stay true to one position, but sometimes line up on the edge, line up on three, line up on them. So, you I feel like that’s what makes me.’ I’m more versatile in that sense, I can work on different moves and how I can read blocks that come off the edge and blocks that come off the three. I know that, so I'm very sure. It's neither difficult nor smooth. No, I don't have a preference. “I like to play everything. As long as I'm involved, I can play everything.”
5. How knowing the various positions helps the unit…
“It helps me know every position, like someone might need help or a certain play. I can break it down to them and tell them how, what to do, how to do it. We can do whatever we want, and we know what the person next to us is doing, so we're all better off, too. ”
6. About Horace Lockett…
His presence definitely made you feel that he was a great man. So I'm going to play a lot with him. I'm going to close it in the middle. Yeah, but I expect a lot from him this season. He's definitely going to be one of the top defensive tackles this year.”
