BRAINERD — To better serve patients with visual impairments, Essentia Health has launched a free tool to read prescription labels.
The tool, called ScripTalk, uses text-to-speech technology to verbalize prescription labels for patients who are unable to read them. Easily available via smartphone app or small device. ScripTalk relies on electronic tags that Essentia pharmacists program and place on containers. Once the tag is scanned in the app or set on your ScripTalk device, your prescription will be read out loud.
ScripTalk's text-to-speech technology can speak in 25 languages. It is free and available for pickup at Essentia pharmacies, by mail, or by delivery when available.
Patients can ask their pharmacy team to use ScripTalk. These requests may be made by telephone, email, or in person. If necessary, the pharmacy team will connect the patient with her ScripTalk representative to ensure the patient understands the app. If a patient wants a device called a station reader, ScripTalk will mail it to them free of charge and check with the patient every six months to see if they want to continue using the device or start using the app. To do.
