LUBBOCK, Texas — Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources offers a block program for senior agricultural communication majors. This program is unique because Texas Tech University is the only university in the country offering this program. In this block, students will create a publishing magazine called “Agriculturist.”
“They write the articles, take the images, sell the ads, design the layout, and create this thing from start to finish,” said Lindsey Kennedy, assistant professor of agricultural communication practice.
Although Agriculturist has been around for a long time, this is the first year the magazine will be an official publication of Davis College.
“I think this speaks to the confidence our university has in the quality of students we receive from Texas Tech's agriculture communications program,” Kennedy said. “It's also great for students, when they graduate from Texas Tech University, to have a really tangible portfolio item that they can go into their first job interview and say, 'Look, I helped create this.' It’s also a great opportunity.”
The Agricultural Communication Block and the publication of agricultural journals are designed to help students prepare for the workforce after graduating from the program.
“When we come out of this situation, we will be able to say, this is an online publication that I created, this is a social media account that allowed me to promote the magazine and increase interest in the university. Here’s what you can do to inspire donor purchasing behavior and get creative with your brand kit,” said Emma Taber, digital content editor at Agriculturist.
This magazine is scheduled to be published at the end of May. Click here to take a look.
